Central DeWitt Community,
On Saturday I was notified by the DeWitt Police Department that they were investigating a potential threat to our school. It was requested that I not send a notice out to our parents and community until they have a chance to investigate the situation. The following is the update I just received from the Police Department that I can share with everyone.
“On Saturday afternoon 10/23/21, multiple reports, emails and text messages were received with information about a threat to Central High School. I know many of you may have seen or received this message, and we appreciate each of you that reached out to report it. The DeWitt Police Department immediately notified Central Dewitt Community School District personnel, and then began working with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, The State of Iowa Criminal Investigations Division and the Davenport Police Department to investigate the threat. As a result, it was discovered that this incident did not involve Central DeWitt High School, but a Central High School in Missouri. This information was verified by the Davenport Police Department, as this same threat message was also circulated in Davenport. The information regarding the threat was forwarded to authorities in Missouri for further investigation.
We would like to thank all the students, parents, staff and community members who communicated with us about this information. We would also like to thank our local law enforcement partners for taking immediate action and working in collaboration with the Central DeWitt Community School District to quickly resolve this matter.”
I would also like to thank everyone that communicated their concerns to law enforcement as well as school personnel. Quite often we talk about the phrase, “if you see something, say something”, meaning if you see something that seems off, communicate with people who can look into the matter. That’s exactly what took place in this situation. Thank you to the DeWitt Police Department for looking into this matter!
Thank you,
Dr. Daniel J. Peterson, Superintendent
