July 5th coolest in local weather records while precipitation was near normal

Last month tied for the 5th coolest July in Clinton weather records since 1879.  Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature was about 70-degrees, which he says is a little more than four degrees below the normal.

Blaess also said that 27 of the 31 days in July were below normal for the temperature. The highest reading was 90 degrees on the 20th. Blaess said that was the only 90 degree day in the month and the third latest 90 degree day since 1893.
A 51 degree low on July 16th tied the record for the date set in 1930 and tied in 1945.

The Clinton area weather observer pointed out the 2009 had the coolest July with the overall temperature of just over 68 degrees. Blaess added that 2012 was the 2nd warmest at just over 81 degrees which was just short of the record July of nearly 82 in 1936.

Precipitation for the month was about 3.25 inches which is a little under the normal of nearly 3.7 inches. But, Blaess said most of the total occurred early the month with about one-third of an inch of precipitation since July 13th.
In August, Blaess said the average precipitation is about 4.6 inches with four days of 90 or above.
Blaess pointed out that August of 2013 was the 9th driest on records to 1878 about just about an inch of precipitation.
