April is Community College Month, and Clinton Community College, one of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, is celebrating! The community is invited to join us for a variety of activities throughout April.
The annual A Taste of Cultures Fair is held on Wednesday, April 3 in the CCC Auditorium, 1000 Lincoln Blvd, Clinton. This event delights the senses with samples of cultures from CCC students, faculty and staff. Native foods and fan favorites were available for tasting with opportunities to learn about countries, customs and cultures.
The Clinton Community College Gaming Guild hosts Game Night on Wednesdays throughout the semester, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the CCC Auditorium, 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton. New for 2024 is Gaming Convention at the Eastern Iowa Community College Urban Campus, Davenport, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. CCC will celebrate the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. A program by CCC Physics and Astronomy instructor Dr. Amensisa Abdi will be presented at 12:30 in the CCC Auditorium, 1000 Lincoln Blvd. Clinton. Following the presentation, participants will be given certified glasses for eclipse viewing.
The artwork of Nicole Davis is on display in the CCC Library Art Gallery through April 10. The exhibit is titled Pride and Prejudice, and features black and white photography. Davis is the CCC art instructor. She is an artist who can use visual pieces such as family photos, toys, and other materials to create an emotional story for the viewer. The CCC Library is open from 7:30 – 4:30 Monday through Thursday, and closes at 4 p.m. on Friday.
The annual High School Fine Arts Day will be presented virtually this year on April 11. The program will gather art pieces in visual arts such as drawing, painting, and graphic design. Students will also submit their pieces for prizes including a 3-credit college course sponsored by the CCC Paul B. Sharar Foundation. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration will be presented on Sunday, April 14 at 1:30 p.m. The event is hosted by Living Peace 365 and was originally scheduled in January. Speaker Chris Britton will share a keynote address. The Peace & Justice and Legacy awards will be presented. Each April the Clinton Community College Alumni Association recognizes students for their leadership in the classroom, on campus, and in the community. The students are nominated by faculty and staff, and are recognized through a booklet highlighting accolades by the nominators. The CCC Alumni Association will also host the 43rd Annual Outstanding Awards on Monday, May 6 at 12:30 p.m. Nominations for outstanding contributions to Clinton Community College are made by CCC staff, faculty and students. Throughout April, the Eastern Iowa Community College Continuing Education program offers free classes to thank the community for their support, and to introduce the community to many great Continuing Education offerings. In 2023, “The College Tour” followed ten EICC students during their educational journey at the colleges. “The College Tour” delves into the heart of colleges and universities worldwide, offering an authentic portrayal of campus life, academics, housing, sports, and activities. EICC, along with 18 other U.S. colleges, takes center stage in the show’s 11th season which will start streaming on Amazon Prime in May. EICC students stepped into the spotlight, auditioning through video submissions that revealed their unique narratives. The filming process was meticulous, with students collaborating on scripts and helping scout locations. The result is an inspiring 30 minute episode that captures the essence of EICC’s mission to change lives and build communities. Visit the www.eicc.edu to see these students’ stories.
The spring semester ends with the 77th Clinton Community College Commencement which will take place Monday, May 13 at 6:00 p.m. at W.J. Yourd Gymnasium, 817 8th Avenue South, Clinton.
