The Iowa Department of Transportation has advised that in preparation for the mayfly hatch season, the IDOT will be shutting off the lights on the 136 Mississippi River bridge (North Bridge) starting today (06/06/2024). Mayflies are attracted to the lighting on the bridge and cover the bridge deck which can cause dangerous driving conditions. The IDOT will monitor the area during the summer and lights will likely be turned back on in August of 2024.
