Kathy Wilson, from Marion, Iowa, gives presentations on everything from artifact storage to genealogy to Victorian death rituals to clothing that kills. She also established the company Historical Perspectives to provide research services to individuals as well as to help small historical societies and communities tackle the challenges of preserving and promoting local history. She has more than 20 years experience as a professional historian, educator, archaeologist, and museum specialist in the Midwest and Southeastern United States. She has a BA in History from Bemidji State University (Minnesota), a Masters from the University of York (England), and is a former PhD candidate at the University of Iowa.
Kathy will present “Gardens: A Place for Escape” on Monday, June 10. Ever wonder why we plant flowers and shrubs next to our houses, but not next to castles? This program traces the transformation of the English residential landscape from medieval herb gardens to the untamed cottage gardens of the early 20th Century. This will be a fascinating journey for anyone who appreciates a beautiful garden.
This presentation is hosted by the Volunteer Millers and is scheduled for Monday, June 10 at 6:00 p.m. The program takes place at the Windmill Cultural Center, at 111 – 10th Avenue, in downtown Fulton, Illinois (across the street from the windmill). Monthly programming is available and partially funded by grants from the DS Flikkema Foundation through F.A.C.E.
