CLINTON, Iowa (June 24, 2024) – To help provide equitable learning access and opportunities and keep local youth connected, UScellular has donated 130 wireless hotspots and two years of service, valued at $146,380, to YWCA Clinton as part of its After School Access Project. UScellular’s After School Access Project provides free mobile hotspots and service to nonprofits that support youth after the school day has ended and provides safe internet access for homework and education.
“Connecting people and communities is our mission, and the After School Access Project is just one way that we’re helping ensure youth have the reliable access they need to grow and pursue their dreams,” said Joshua Olbricht, UScellular’s director of sales and operations for east Iowa. “We encourage nonprofit organizations to apply for this program and help us bring reliable wireless internet access to youth across America.”
The hotspots provided to YWCA Clinton connect to UScellular’s wireless network to provide high-speed connectivity for youth, while at the facility and homes of members who check-out the devices.
“YWCA Clinton is proud of the relationship we have with UScellular and the Clinton Community School District. Relationships like this help drive our mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all,” YWCA Clinton Development Coordinator Sarah Nevling said. “We believe all children have the right to receive quality childcare and education, and we are committed to each child’s social, physical, mental and emotional development.
“These hotspots received through the generosity of UScellular allow children in our district to develop self-confidence, use their imaginative resourcefulness and originality to express themselves, build self-worth and feel secure both at home and out in the community,” she said. “Access to the internet is integral nowadays for children to achieve this. We’re delighted to work with USCellular in making that a reality for so many children who may not have the ability to otherwise.”
Since 2021, UScellular has donated more than $23 million to support hundreds of organizations with hotspots and service. UScellular also provided 100 hotspots and two years of service to YWCA Clinton two years ago.
