Public Meeting Schedule for Iowa American Water’s Request to Increase Water Utility Rates

Iowa American Water filed an application (petition) with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) on May 1, 2024, seeking an increase in its water utility rates to be effective April 1, 2025. The utility is requesting:

An increase in annual water revenue of $21,106,223, or approximately 46.7% above their existing water revenue requirement.
38.68% change (increase) for typical residential water bills
30.73% change (increase) for typical commercial water bills
35.93% change (increase) for typical industrial water bills

The company also requested an interim rate increase to be effective on May 11, 2024. The utility is requesting temporary rate increases:

11.40% change (increase) for typical residential water bills
14.02% change (increase) for typical commercial water bills
16.83% change (increase) for typical industrial water bills

Following a public hearing and review of all the evidence, testimony, and other filings in the docket, the IUB can approve or deny the request, or approve the request with modifications.

The IUB has provided three opportunities for customer to attend public meetings to allow Iowa American Water customers to provide comments in regards to the proposed rate increase. There will be one virtual meeting and two in-person meetings for customer comments. Meeting locations and dates below:

Clinton (in person) – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Wild Rose Casino, 777 Wild Rose Drive, Clinton
Davenport (in person) – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center, 2021 State Street, Bettendorf

The Clinton City Council adopted a resolution opposing the water utility rate increases by Iowa American Water at its May 14, 2024 Council meeting. The resolution was submitted to the Iowa Utilities Board.
