Eastern Iowa Woman Wins $30,000 Lottery Prize

CLIVE, Iowa — An eastern Iowa woman is weighing some gifts for her kids now that she’s won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “$30,000 Crossword” scratch game.

“My son wants a miniature dirt bike so I might get him one of those,” Wendy Jewell of Clinton said. “(My daughter) wants a cell phone, but I don’t know if I’m okay with giving her a cell phone yet, being six.”

Jewell, 40, bought her winning ticket at Liquor Tobacco & Vape, 112 S. 2nd St. in Clinton. She claimed her prize Thursday at the lottery regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Jewell, who works at a grocery store, said that in addition to the ideas for her children, she’s planning to pay off some bills.

Jewell won the 56th of 151 top prizes of $30,000 in the game. The $30,000 Crossword is a $3 scratch game with overall odds of 1 in 3.52. Players complete words with a given set of letters. The more words they complete, the more money they win. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
