The Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 541 9th Avenue South around 1758 hours on August 9th, 2024. CFD responded with two ladder trucks, an engine, two ambulances, and a command vehicle. Camanche Fire responded with an engine for a rapid intervention team. Upon arrival, crews located a two-story residential structure with smoke showing from the rear. Witness reports on scene indicated that there was still at least one and possibly two people still inside the building. The first arriving company was directed to make an aggressive interior search without the protection of a hose line. Additional arriving companies began fire attack once on scene.
A rapid search of the building located one victim near the fire area in the first-floor apartment. There were no additional victims located within the building. Three cats were successfully rescued from the second-floor apartment. In addition to the aggressive search, crews made a rapid knock down on the well-developed fire. Salvage and overhaul operations continued to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. The Salvation Army was called to assist displaced residents. The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to assist in the investigation. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No other information is available at this time. Crews were assisted on scene by the Clinton Police Department, the Camanche Fire Department, Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office, Alliant Energy, the Salvation Army, and Clinton County Communications.
