Travis Claussen Claims Big Prize in Beat the Heat Scratch Game

CLIVE, Iowa — A routine errand turned a De Witt man into a $10,000 winner.

“I just stopped at the gas station to get some drinks for the kids and me and then decided to grab two scratch tickets and I won,” said Travis Claussen, 37.

Claussen purchased his winning “Beat the Heat” ticket at MJs East, 206 E. 11th St. in De Witt, and claimed his prize Friday at the lotterys regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Claussen said the money will help his familys future.

“My wife is going back to school, so this will help pay for some classes,” Claussen said.

Beat the Heat is a $10 scratch game that features six top prizes of $100,000, 26 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.16.

From now until 8:59 a.m. on Sept. 25, players can enter nonwinning Beat the Heat tickets into the “Beat the Heat, Win the Cash” Prize Zone promotion for a chance to win one of 10 prizes of $10,000. Learn more at www.ialottery.com.
