On October 7, 2024, at approximately 9:18 A.M., deputies from the Clinton County Sheriffs Office responded
to the 3700 Block of Hwy 30 in reference to a report of a two-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, the first deputy
on the scene located a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the ditch adjacent to Highway 30, with significant rear-end
damage. The second vehicle involved, which was a flatbed truck towing a trailer, was found stopped along the
shoulder of Highway 30, with significant frontend damage. Preliminary investigations indicate the SUV was
stopped or disabled in the travelled portion of the eastbound lanes of Highway 30, when it was struck from
behind by the flatbed truck/trailer, that was travelling eastbound on Highway 30. As a result of the
investigation, both eastbound lanes of Highway 30 were closed, and traffic was rerouted. The eastbound lanes
of Highway 30 remained closed for over four hours.
There was a total of six occupants in the SUV, two adults and four children. The truck and trailer had only one
occupant. As a result of the accident, two of the children in the SUV, whom were both under the age of flve,
were pronounced dead at the scene. A third child, who was under the age of five, was airlifted to the
University of lowa Hospltals and Clinics and died shortly after arrival at the University of lowa Hospital. The
three other occupants of the SUV, two adults and a child, were transferred to area hospitals where they being
treated. The driver of the truck and trailer was transported to Mercy Medical Center, where he was treated.
The identity of the deceased is not being released currently, pending proper notification of family.
The case remains under investitation by the Clinton County Sheriffs Office and the lowa State Patrol.
The Clinton County Sheriffs Office was assisted by the Low Moor Fire Department, Clinton Fire Department,
Camanche Fire Department, Clinton Police Department, lowa State Patrol, Genesis Ambulance Service, Med
Force Aeromedical Transport, Air Care (lowa City), Air Care (Dubuque) and the Office of the Clinton County
Medical Examiner.
