Boat capsizes on the Mississippi, killing three fishermen

Three fishermen were killed on the Mississippi River late Sunday morning.

The Iowa DNR says the three were fishing just below Lock and Dam Number 12 in Bellevue.

They were in a restricted area directly beneath the dam when the boat was pulled into what the agency says are hazardous waters below the dam due to a strong black flow current.

The boat capsized and rescuers were able to pull all three men ashore.

Emergency responders worked to save their lives but two of the anglers were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third died later at a Dubuque hospital.

The victims’ names were not released.
