The Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to 238 4th Avenue North, Clinton, Iowa for a possible broken water line in the apartment complex. The first unit on the scene reported water flowing out of one of the exit doors and could see water coming out of the ceiling on the first floor. This was determined to be a broken pipe on the first floor which was the main water supply for the building.
There were approximately 15 occupants that were evacuated from their apartments. There were six apartments that were uninhabitable because of their electricity being disconnected. Management was moving those occupants to other empty apartments within the complex. Alliant was called to the scene to disconnect power and Iowa American Water was on the scene to shut off the water supply. The fire department helped remove the water that was in the hallways and some rooms. The fire department was on the scene for just over an hour. There were no injuries to any occupant or firemen. A water restoration company was called in to remove the excess water and to restore the building back to normal. The estimated damage is approximately $ 50,000. The complex is fully insured.
The Clinton Fire Department responded with 2 Ladder companies, 1 Engine company, 3 Paramedic ambulances, 1 Command vehicle, and 15 Personnel, which included the Fire Chief and Safety Officer.
