Earlier this week state officials announced a new warning system and Clinton County was among the first 34 counties to sign up to use the program.– BUT Clinton County residents are reminded that the new Alert Iowa System announced this week will not be available locally until January of 2015.
The Alert Iowa System will allow residents to receive severe weather and 911 outages and other emergency notices through various electronic devices such as cell phones, landline phones and fax machines.
Clinton County Emergency Management Coordinator Chance Kness said while the system was unveiled earlier this week in Des Moines, it won’t be online for Clinton County residents until the start of 2015.
Kness said they are looking forward to Clinton County residents being able to use this innovative alert system,” “but we first need to establish local protocols and training before the system goes online.”
Kness said once those rules are established for Clinton County, a web site will be set up for residents to sign up for the alert messages. Kness estimates the system will be functional by January of 2015.
“We are proud to join other counties and cities around the country that utilize this system to get warnings out to the public about a variety of hazards so they can take appropriate caution,” Kness said.
KROS presented the state announcement in our news earlier this week.
