…STRENGTHENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM STILL ON TRACK TO BRING SNOW AND BRISK WINDS TO THE AREA TODAY…read the rest of the NWS statement here:

.A STORM SYSTEM MOVING ACROSS THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES WILL CONTINUE TO BRING IN COLDER AIR ON STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS ACROSS THE AREA TODAY. THIS WILL CHANGE OVER RAIN TO SNOW FROM WEST TO EAST EARLY THIS MORNING…WITH OCCASIONAL ROUNDS OF SNOW THEN CONTINUING ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA INTO THIS EVENING. NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH SOME GUSTS OVER 40 MPH….WHEN COMBINED WITH THE FALLING SNOW WILL SHARPLY REDUCE VISIBILITIES AT TIMES. LOCALIZED PATCHY BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL THEN BE POSSIBLE BY AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING AS TEMPERATURES FALL FURTHER.

* TIMING…LINGERING RAIN TO CONTINUE TO CHANGE TO SNOW EARLY THIS MORNING.  OCCASIONAL SNOW SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…1 TO 3 INCHES. THE HIGHER SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS WILL LIKELY OCCUR NORTHEAST OF A LINE FROM 20
MILES WEST OF DUBUQUE IOWA…TO STERLING IN NORTHWESTERN
ILLINOIS.

* WINDS…WEST TO NORTHWEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH TODAY.

* IMPACTS…AS TEMPERATURES FALL WELL BELOW FREEZING…ROADS MAY
BECOME SNOW AND ICE COVERED AND SLIPPERY…ESPECIALLY DURING THE
LATE MORNING AND AFTERNOON. LOCALIZED BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL ALSO CAUSE REDUCED AND RAPIDLY CHANGING VISIBILITIES… ESPECIALLY ON RURAL AND OPEN NORTH/SOUTH ROADWAYS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT VISIBILITIES WILL BE LIMITED DUE TO A COMBINATION OF FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW. USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING… ESPECIALLY IN OPEN AREAS.
