Tentative schedule of governmental meetings this week

Clinton City Council to look at tax rate during a budget meeting Monday & it could be lower than this year even if an emergency levy is reinstated. Click ‘read more’ for detailsThe Clinton City Council continues their budget sessions Monday afternoon. The session starts at 3 o’clock at City Hall.
The topics for the meeting are debt service, capital projects and special revenue funds.
Included in the items is information on the overall tax levy. The material points out that the city wide property valuation for the next budget year is lower than the current year – so the tax dollars the city would receive would be less than allocated for this year. A recommendation to re-instate the emergency levy is proposed. That levy was eliminated last year to reduce the tax rate.
Finance Director Anita Dalton points out that even with the emergency levy included the tax rate for the next budget year would be less than the current rate. The levy would be 15 dollars and 88 cents per thousand dollars of taxable value while the current rate is 16 dollars and 32 cents.
Employee benefits and a reduction the health insurance rates are the biggest factors in lowering the rate.
