The Clinton City Council changed their usual Tuesday evening meeting to Thursday for this week to accommodate meetings at the Capital on Tuesday and Wednesday that involved some city officials.
The meeting will be at 7 P-M.
There are only a couple of items on the business agenda. One of those is to approve the forgivable loan of 30-thousand dollars from the downtown business group to the developers proposing to turn the Wilson building into apartments. The money comes from the downtown property owners but requires city approval for disbursement.
During the Committee of the whole meeting the council will consider the proposal for changes in the zoning rules to allow residential use of the first floor of buildings in the downtown business area. The Plan Commission has recommended approval of the change developed for the Wilson Building but would apply to other buildings in the area.
The council will also consider a request from the Y-W-C-A for funding for the efforts to help move families from emergency shelters to safe, affordable permanent housing.
The Gateway Impact Coalition is also requesting funding to help with their operations.
Garbage pickup will also be a topic. After discussing seeking proposals since mid-2013 the information for the council states that the questions that needed to be answered to proceed have been answered and a decision is needed. Options that are proposed is to continue the current system-with modifications, charge all residents for the service, seek a private hauler to handle the city’s customers and allow other private haulers or eliminate the city’s system for a system of private haulers.
The memo from City Administrator Jessica Kinser says there is not a recommendation – however staff needs direction on how to proceed.
