Meetings this week

The Clinton City Council meets for a budget session and a business session this week and the Fulton Council meets. “Read more” for the details on the meetings of various government groups and other items this week.

It will be another budget meeting for the Clinton City Council on Monday-February 23rd. The council will review the road use tax fund, plus the marina and marina amenities building funds.
The council will also review the idea of an urban forest utility. That could be a per property type assessment to fund tree maintenance on city property such as street right of way areas and parks.
The session is at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon.

The Clinton School Board has a regular committee of the whole session on Monday.
Finance Director Cindy McAleer will present the outline and draft of the budget for the next school. The board has a special budget work session planned for March 2.
The budget plan would include the proposed cut of one-point-two million dollars in expenses.


The Clinton County Board has a couple of meetings scheduled. The Supervisors will meet Monday morning. The major item on the agenda is a public hearing concerning vacating a section of a road right of way in the Bryant area.
On Tuesday it’s the regular meeting of the County Board starting at 9:15. The board will consider a resolution about a hiring and wage freeze for Clinton County personnel.


The Fulton, Illinois City Council meets on Monday. They will consider adjusting the water and sewer rates at the meeting. The session starts at 5:30 at the Fulton City Hall.


The Clinton City Council will be meeting at Tuesday evening.
Among the items for consideration is approval a contract for reconstruction of the road in Eagle Point Park. There was one bid for the project for about 375-thousand dollars. That is about 25-thousand dollar over the amount budgeted, but the city engineer recommends awarding the contract and the staff will work with the contractor to find some savings in the project.

During the Committee of the Whole meeting the council will hear about a plan from the Clinton Rotary Club to raise funds for some improvements at the Eagle Point Park Lodge.

The meeting will start at 7 o’clock Tuesday evening.


Iowa Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds will be visiting the area this week. On Tuesday February 24th she will be touring Kunau (koo-now) Implements in Preston at 11 A-M and then tour the Clinton A-D-M plant at 1 P-M.

Congressman Dave Loebsack will have a member of his staff in Clinton County and Scott County for open office hours on Tuesday, The staff member willl be in DeWitt and Clinton plus Eldridge.
HenryeMarquard will be on hand to work with individuals who are having difficulty with a government agency, have suggestions for Dave, or would just like to share their concerns. Members of the public are invited to attend. Marquard holds regular office hours throughout Eastern Iowa.

You can visit with the Congressman’s staff member on the 24th at the DeWitt City Hall from 9 to 10 A-M and then in Clinton at City Hall from 11 A-M to noon. Also at the Eldridge Scott County Library from 2 to 3 P-M.
