Clinton County now has an emergency notification system for citizens

You can sign up to receive various emergency and weather warnings via a text message, email or voice mail in Clinton County. Interview w/EMA Director Chance Kness plus link to sign up page included.

Clinton County Emergency Management Agency Director Chance Kness says they’ve wanted this type of system since 2008-but it was cost prohibitive. But, the state started a system and allowed counties to use that system for local alerts. Kness a number of counties are using the state system for these local alerts. He says ‘it’s a good, quick way to communicate with the public when there’s a danger or something they need to be aware of.”
He says when you go the signup page you’ll pick how you want to receive notices and what type of weather warnings you want. Kness says there are some types of law enforcement or related alerts that are automatic when you sign up.
The Clinton County Emergency Management Agency Director says signing up is not complicated.
Kness says the new emergency notices you can receive by text, email or voice call are not meant to replace other warning systems such as the media and warning sirens. He said it’s an addition to other warning systems. The EMA Director says the philosophy is to have multiple messages coming from multiple sources to get people to take behaviors to make it safe for them.
Kness does ask the public to consider which alerts you sign up to receive. He says they don’t want people to get some many messages they start to ignore them.
