Clinton City officials are calling the announcement of a grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for some sewer separation work some ‘good news.’
The city received 600-thousand dollars in the grant program directed toward work in the 20th Avenue North area.
The city will direct 725-thousand dollars in sewer revenue towards the project that’s part of the mandated ‘long term control plan.’ City Engineer Jason Craft says the work would have been delayed without the grant.
Craft says work on the 20th Avenue North pump station will be underway at the same time.
The city engineer says the project will include sewer separation work and related street work in the 20th to 23rd Avenue North area in the Pershing, McKinley Street and Cleveland street area.
The City Engineer says the expectation is that the project will reduce the amount of combined sewer overflows into the river to an acceptable level of below 4 to 6 overflows per year
City Administrator Jessica Kinser said it’s a positive project which will impact the neighborhood with reconstructed streets and will hopefully reduce basement back-ups in the area.
• Reconstruction of the following streets will be part of the project:
o 20th Avenue North from 2nd Street to McKinley Street
o 21st Avenue North from 2nd Street to Roosevelt Street and from Garfield Street to McKinley Street
o Roosevelt Street from 20th Avenue North to 22nd Avenue North
o Garfield Street from 20th Avenue North to 22nd Avenue North
o 23rd Avenue North from Cleveland Street to 2nd Street.
o Cleveland Street from Buell Ave to 23rd Ave N
