April weather was warmer and drier than average

April was a ‘nice’ month overall for the weather.
Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature and precipitation were slightly above normal.

Blaess says the overall temperature was just over 53 (53.5) degrees and was above the normal of about 52 (51.9).

The highest temperature was 80 and Blaess says that was recorded on April 1st and 17th.
The lowest temperature was 25 on the 4th.
Blaess did add that on the 9th the 77 tied a record high for the date. That was also the day of tornadoes in the Clinton area including about an inch of rain (0.98) in 30 minutes.

Precipitation for the month was about 3-and-a-quarter inches (3.26) which is above the normal of about 3 inches (3.05).
Last weekend the precipitation was about 1-point-6 (1.61) inches of the total.

Blaess says April was the first month with above average precipitation since last October.
For the first four months of the year the precipitation is about 6 and three quarters (6.72) of an inch which Blaess says is below the normal of about 8 and a third (8.37)  inches.

For May-Blaess says you can expect nearly four inches of precipitation (3.94). The weather observer says the average high for May 1st is 69 and the low is 46 and by the end of the month those averages area 78 and 56.
